With all due respect to the blogosphere, there's a need for a little face to face ferment. We need a party.
Actually, before we start throwing a party, it would be great to get some cool place with food and drink to join the cabal. Seems to me that such a, uh, brand identification might be a pretty good business move for the bar.
I guess it's not absolutely crucial to have the venue on the planning committee. We could always just pick a place and tell people to show up there. But it would be better to be publicizing etc. in tandem with the venue, and it would be great if the venue took some initiative, like half-price drinks if you displayed your Mays Field colors or something like that.
Any suggestions for venues, or, better yet, connections to same, so you could have a Giants Fan to Giants Fan conversation with the owner?

I like the sports bar idea, such as Zeke's (right near the Park AND stumbling distance post-work) and cast a second vote for the Kezar Club (right near the other Park on Stanyan and Waller).
You know, though, even as I write this, I'm starting to like the name SBC/AT&T Free Market Field much better. It has a nice, ummm, *ring* to it.

I'm all over this. Just got me a hat and a t-shirt. Would be very cool to see a bunch of those in the stands.
Hank knows me so it should come as no surprise to him that I am fully behind the bar/party idea. You have to hate the crowd, but MoMo's would be a good place for an outdoor/indoor party.

I think that would be the *first* hat and t-shirt, Edwin. You're on the fashion trend-setting edge.

...and I'll get 'em to ya. Order as many as you want (let me know which color you prefer), as long as you're committed to getting them seen somewhere.
Now as for the bar....I really encourage anyone who knows a bar owner/manager to talk it up to them and report back here. This is such a no-brainer for a sports bar to get behind this...

Just had a great chat with David the co-owner of the Brickhouse on Brannan between 3rd and 4th. It's more coffeehouse than bar, but it's got beer and wine and very good food. They've been on board the Mays Field bus since last year and have had a bumpie on the front door. I invited David over here to conjure with us about what a kickoff event might look like. Off the top,I'd say we need some kind of 'draw'--athletes? politicians? entertainers-- as the cherry on top to our compelling core message. And we need to give a little thought to what we want to happen, other than a raucous SBC-bashing good time. I think we want to get a little financial warchest in place (e.g. for printing housesigns and/or renting a plane to fly over a Giants game with our banner!) and I think we want to get the bumper stickers etc. out there in more massive fashion. Ideas?
I don't think we're going to have any problem publicizing this event.
David..jump in please!

The Brickhouse Cafe would love to host the pre-game/postgame party where the Mays Field enthusists could meet and drink and eat. We have a full bar and the best food in SOMA. We already have great deals for game days. $2.00 PBR's and $3.00 Micros. We'd be willing to offer anyone with Mays Field colors or garb, $1.00 PBR's and $2.00 Micros. Hard to beat that deal!!! We have already been supporting the Mays Field idea, handing out bumber stickers towards the end of last season. We even have a bumber sticker on our front door. We are located just 2 blocks from the stadium at 426 Brannan st., in between 3rd and 4th street. Just ask for Dave or Fred!
