Post Your Mays Field Photos to Flickr

We're ready to use Flickr to share our Mays Field photos, particularly any shots of the directional signs.  Here's a brief how-to:

  1. First, here's an intro to Flickr, and here's their FAQ.  If you have questions, they have answers.

  2. To use Flickr, you'll have to register.  It's free, but Flickr's a Yahoo service, so if you don't have one already, you'll need a Yahoo ID.

  3. Once you're registered, you can upload photos to Flickr any number of ways--through the upload page on their site, by email, using one of their upload tools, or even from certain types of cameraphone using ShoZu or Lifeblog.  Knock yourself out, kids.

(Note that you can upload as many photos as you want with a free Flickr account, but you're limited to 20 MB per month--each month, you'll get another 20 MB of bandwidth.)

  4. Be sure to tag all your photos maysfield.  And yes, you can tag photos uploaded by email or phone

(Note that you can add other tags as well, such as sfgiants or sanfrancisco or louseal.  Add as many as you'd like.  And I'm kidding about louseal--please don't do that.  I really hate that mascot.  Crazy Crab would kick the seal's ass.)

  5. You can also join the Mays Field group on Flickr and add your photos to the group pool.  That's just another way to organize and keep track of our photos.

  6. All tagged photos will appear in the photostream in the left-hand sidebar.  I'll also search for tagged photos regularly and display the best ones in posts on this site.  And if we ever really get our act together, we'll have a contest for the best ones.

(Prizes may or may not include one year of free DSL from AT&T, a Moises Alou batting glove (unused), and an autographed copy of Game of Shadows.)

Plot and Drink @ Brickhouse 4/5 @ 6 p.m. Be There

We're going to meet up at the Brickhouse, 426 Brannan bet. 3rd and 4th, at 6 p.m. Wednes 4/5 to distribute signs, model (and sell) t-shirts, pimp bumper stickers and have a good time. We'll have the upstairs room with its world class view of the Mays Field sign in my office window across the street. G's game from SD on the big B'house tube at 7. Home opener against the Atlantoids next day at 12:35. B'house has excellent food I may add...and they didn't give me nothing to say that (tho hopefully they will cut us a break on drinks!). See you there! -Noah Lowry

Welcome LiveJournalistas!

We're getting a lot of visitors from LiveJournal sites--nice to have you here.  If it's not obvious, this site is home to a grassroots campaign to honor Willie Mays by calling the San Francisco Giants' beautiful stadium Mays Field.  More details on our About page.

And as that page notes, there are plenty of ways to get involved:

And please keep spreading the word to LiveJournal users.  See you at Mays Field!

Mays Field Banner Flying High

Hey, this is Daniel's office! The photo is one of the first on Flickr to be tagged "maysfield". Way to support the cause, Daniel.

Mays Field on Flickr

I just set up a Mays Field group on Flickr, the photo sharing site.  If you come across a Mays Field logo or directional sign, take a photo, post it to Flickr, share it with the group and tag it "maysfield".

There are already a handful of tagged photos on Flickr, and as more are posted, we'll display the best ones here.

Mays Field Directional Signs

Point the way to Mays Field! Thanks to the stellar folks at Mortar, you can download and print out your very own set of Mays Field signs (PDF, 322 KB), which includes six full-page images: four with orange-and-black on a white background (up, down, left and right arrows), and an up arrow in both white-on-green and green-on-white.  (You'll need Adobe Reader to access the PDF.)

Print 'em out and stick 'em on your door!  Better yet, take a picture, post it to Flickr and tag it "maysfield".  We'll set up a photostream to show the results here on this site.  Hey, maybe we'll even get sufficiently motivated to hold a contest for the best photo.  Maybe.  Many thanks to Mortar for their great work!

We also have the two signs below, if you prefer.  Just click on the thumbnails to see full-sized versions.

ArmchairGM's Complete List of Baseball Blogs

ArmchairGM is trying to compile a complete list of baseball blogs.  Their site's a wiki, which means that any visitor can add or edit the content directly in a browser window, so go give them a hand.  I just alphabetized, edited and updated their list of Giants blogs, a list you'll also find down on our lower right sidebar.  (Here at Mays Field, I'm keeping up Giants blogs that appear to be dormant, in case their authors come out of hiding once the season begins.)

It's an interesting site--I'm a big fan of wikis as collaborative tools, but this is the first time I've seen one used as the basis for a sports site.  Very cool.

Farley Strikes Again

Farley, March 22, 2006, copyright Phil Frank

The San Francisco Chronicle's Phil Frank is squarely behind the Mays Field effort, as yesterday's Farley strip makes clear.  (Click on the image above for a larger version of the strip in the Chron's archives.)  Thanks, Phil!
